About Pastor Drew
I like to think I’m pretty normal. I enjoy time with my wife and children very much, but feel like I miss out on so much with them. I love board games, but hate losing them. I love conversations over coffee and dabbling in graphic design and video games, but feel guilty about overdoing it. I hope for the best, but prepare for something less.
How Pastor Drew came to South Burleson
In the Spring of 2019, Jesus began directing Pastor Drew and his wife, Kristy, to begin praying about a transition into something different. After 6 months of prayer, and without knowing the next destination, they notified their church leadership about all that they were praying for. “It was not easy leaving a church we’d grown to love, but we were confident in the Lord’s wisdom and guidance.”
A few days later, Kristy happened upon South Burleson Baptist Church’s website and read their announcement that they were searching for a bi-vocational pastor. She showed Pastor Drew and they realized resumes were due in two days, so after notifying the home church’s leadership, Pastor Drew entered his name for consideration. Within 2 months, the Pastoral Search Team was sitting down with Drew and Kristy, knowing Jesus had orchestrated the coming together of their church with Pastor Drew.
So after months of searching (for both pastor and church), the church finalized everything with a vote to receive Drew Caperton as their Lead Pastor on December 1, 2019.
While Jesus had begun something in Pastor Drew’s heart, he had also been stirring others to join Drew and Kristy on their journey toward revitalizing South Burleson Baptist Church.
So together, they were the Core Nine: Dan and Amy Hay, Lindsay Breaux, Daniel Sutor, Cindy Hightower, Daniel and Candice Oster all threw their lots in with Drew and Kristy Caperton to see what Jesus had planned for the future.
Pastor Drew’s Hope for Ministry
Although much of this is covered in our vision, my hope for ministry is to see people become ministers and make disciples. It really is that simple. However, with so many barriers - both personal and systemic - getting people to understand their God-given power and calling can be daunting. How do people became mature when they don’t want to? or don’t think they need to?
It was with this in mind that we began our Gospel Course to help people find their place in God’s mission to bring salvation to people who don’t deserve it (which is all of us). We began Life Groups for people to begin ministering in real time: praying for people, dealing with sin, and hearing from Jesus. The future will bring more, but with all the craziness of 2020, we are focusing on getting our major parts first: loving people and equipping them for ministry.
